The Citizen of the Year Gala Awards Ceremony was on Friday September 26th at the Bridge House Theatre, Warwick School, starting 7:30pm (doors 7:00). The evening featured the stories of the shortlisted nominees plus live entertainment, music and special guests. Our compere for the evening was Mr Dave Sharpe from BBC Coventry and Warwickshire.

The shortlisted nominees were our the guests during the ceremony. Nominees were featured and their contributions to the community brought out in short interviews conducted by the compere.

The interviews took place between live acts, meaning the event retains its pace as a highly professional show. There were four varied live acts during the evening.

The climax of the evening was the announcement of the winner, 2014’s Citizen of the Year. As with previous years, tension was high in the theatre amongst the shortlisted nominees and their supporters!

In 2011 Steph Devlin became Citizen of the Year, and was a very worthy winner. Her work with the homeless deserved the standing ovation from an excited audience. In 2012 Margaret Kite was named Citizen of the Year for her tireless fundraising around the area, with Leah Brassington named Young Citizen of the Year. 2013 saw joint winners Barbara Moreton and Rosemary Kirk, both long term workers at Whitnash Rehab Hospital, and the Young Citizen of the Year was young carer Kyle Lekarla.
