The date of this year’s Gala Awards Ceremony coincides with Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, so before the event there will be a coffee and cakes reception. Warwick Tesco has generously stepped-in to donate the cakes for this event, so last week organisers the Brakes Trust met up with Sarah Wrist who is Warwick Tesco’s Community Champion.

Sarah writes: “Tesco Warwick are very proud to be able to support the Citizen of the Year Awards this year, recognising our local people who go above and beyond by volunteering in our community.

“Community involvement is very important to Tesco and we welcome being able to work with local charities and organisations such as those represented by the nominees. Their work in the community is just as important as large charities like Macmillan who we have been able to support this year. A huge well done from Tesco Warwick to all of the nominees!”

Biting into Tesco muffins are Graham Hobbins (Brakes Trust), Cathy Wahlberg (Operations and Finance Member from Alsters Kelley LLP), Catherine Thomson (representing Macmillan) and Sarah Wrist (Warwick Tesco).

The team were also joined by Catherine Thomson who will be representing Macmillan at the Gala Awards. Catherine came into contact with Macmillan in 2002 when her father was diagnosed with terminal cancer – “As a doctor, his only request to me was to do what I could to help others where he would no longer be able to. I have been proud to be involved ever since to raise awareness of – and money for – Macmillan’s amazing work to support people living with cancer”. Catherine has trekked the Sahara, cycled to Paris, swum through the Thames and the list goes on. “Volunteering for Macmillan is one of the most rewarding parts of my life, and I’m honoured and excited to be joining you for this special evening of celebrations!”

The Gala Awards Ceremony is on Friday 26 September at Bridge House Theatre, Warwick School. Doors 7:00pm for a 7:30 start. Tickets are on sale now direct from the Bridge House Theatre box office, online HERE and in person at the theatre. Tickets are £12 adults, £10 concession or £5 under 16.
